Yamaha SBV500 bass is a true alternative

NASHVILLE–Yamaha Corporation of America will launch the new SBV Series electric bass line at Summer NAMM 2000, a true alternative for players that demand a look and sound that goes beyond traditional bass styles. Originally inspired by the retro-style SC line from years past and most recently, the SGV Series electric guitar line, the SBV500 incorporates a unique body design, original Yamaha pickup configuration and a selection of retro finishes. The SBV500 is currently shipping.

"Yamaha and its dealers have yet another product that is ideal for their younger, more ‘alternative’ customers," states David Bergstrom, director of marketing, Combo Group, Pro Audio & Combo Division. "The SBV has a very retro look, yet is extremely modern in its cutting-edge features and design."

The SBV500 features a flat-top, Solid Alder body and 12-degree angled "Samurai" headstock shape (first introduced by Yamaha in the 1960’s), which has become an often-imitated characteristic in electric guitar and bass products.

Newly-designed single-coil Yamaha pickups produce the solid, tight sound that has become the backbone of hard rock, metal, alternative and Hip-Hop music. Other features include a fast, thin 34-in. maple neck and Rosewood fingerboard, chrome hardware, volume and tone control knobs and a hardshell case. To complete the look, players can choose from a variety of neo-retro finishes that look great on stage or video.

"The SBV Series really takes bass playing to the extreme," adds Gary Cook, Guitar product manager. "With its original, radical-looking Yamaha body design and innovative features, the SBV500 offers today’s bassist a unique alternative."
